What a khaki screen is for
Khaki is a muted pale yellow. Low-saturation yellows are good at revealing color casts, because any green or red bias in the panel shifts them noticeably while a saturated color would mask it.
The word means dust
Khaki comes from the Urdu and Persian word for dust or earth, and it entered English through the British Indian Army in the nineteenth century, when soldiers dyed white uniforms with tea, coffee and mud to make themselves less conspicuous. It is one of the few colour names that is a direct description of the material it was meant to imitate. The shade is a pale, desaturated yellow-brown: all three channels moderately high with blue lowest.
Muted colours and why they hide things
What makes khaki effective as camouflage is low saturation rather than any particular hue. Saturated colours are rare in natural landscapes, so anything vivid stands out regardless of whether the hue matches, while a desaturated tone in roughly the right range blends into a wide variety of backgrounds. The same principle is why muted palettes feel natural in design and vivid ones feel synthetic.
Khaki against its neighbours
Khaki, tan, sand and olive all sit in the warm, muted band and are easily confused. Khaki is greener and more muted than tan, lighter and yellower than olive, and less pink than sand. Those differences are real and small. On a well-calibrated screen they separate clearly side by side; on a panel with a strong colour cast several of them collapse into the same apparent shade, which makes this group a decent informal test of a display.

Khaki color values
The exact values for this shade, if you need to match it somewhere else.
| Hex | #F0E68C |
|---|---|
| RGB | 240, 230, 140 |
| HSL | 54°, 77%, 75% |
| CMYK | 0%, 4%, 42%, 6% |
| Contrast on white | 1.28:1 |
| Contrast on black | 16.4:1 |
Contrast ratios follow the WCAG formula. Anything at or above 4.5:1 is readable as body text against that background, and 3:1 is the floor for large headings. Khaki reaches that bar on black.

Questions
Does this work on a phone?
Yes. On mobile the page fills the screen when you tap the panel. Some browsers keep a thin status bar visible, which is a browser limit rather than something the page controls.
Will a khaki screen fix a stuck pixel?
Sometimes. A stuck pixel is lit in one color and can occasionally be freed by cycling colors rapidly for a few minutes. A dead pixel receives no power at all and cannot be recovered in software.
What is the hex code for this khaki screen?
This page uses #F0E68C. The same value is shown in RGB, HSL and CMYK further down, so you can match this exact shade somewhere else.
Does a khaki screen save battery?
No, and on an OLED or AMOLED screen a light color costs more power than a dark one, because every pixel has to be lit. If battery life is the goal, use the black screen instead.
Can I download this khaki as a wallpaper?
Yes. There is a ready-made 1920 by 1080 PNG on this page, and the panel above will generate the same color at your own screen size, at 1440p or 4K, or at phone dimensions. No watermark and no sign-up.
Is it free?
Yes, and there is no sign-up. The page draws a color; that is the whole tool.
