The bouncing DVD logo is the screensaver DVD players showed when idle: a logo drifting across a black screen, changing colour each time it touches an edge. Where it comes from

DVD players from the late 1990s onward showed a bouncing logo when left idle at the menu, for the same reason every screensaver existed: to stop a static image being burned into a CRT. The behaviour was simple, a logo moving diagonally and reflecting off each edge with a colour change, and it was on screen in millions of living rooms during the years people were waiting for a disc to load. That combination of ubiquity and idleness is why it lodged in a generation's memory rather than being forgotten with the format.

Why a corner hit is rare, and what actually decides it

The logo moves diagonally at a fixed speed and reflects off each edge, so its path is entirely deterministic. A corner hit requires it to reach a horizontal edge and a vertical edge on the same frame, which means the remaining distance to each has to reduce to zero simultaneously. Whether that ever happens depends on the relationship between the screen dimensions, the logo size and the step distance per frame. Some combinations produce a hit within minutes, and some produce a path that cycles forever without one, which is why waiting for it can be either quick or futile depending on numbers nobody watching can see.

And if you are capturing it into streaming software, use a browser source rather than filming the screen, which avoids the moire pattern a camera produces when pointed at a display.
