Orange wallpaper

Orange wallpaper - solid orange background, 1920 x 1080, hex #FFA500

A plain orange wallpaper at 1920 by 1080, ready to download. It is a flat single-color image with no pattern, gradient or watermark, which is what makes it useful as a desktop or phone background when you want the icons to be the only thing on screen.

If you need a different size, the panel above will generate this exact color at your screen's resolution, at 1440p or 4K, or at common phone dimensions. Both routes give you the same #FFA500.

What a orange screen is for

Orange approximates warm indoor light, so a screen filled with it works as an improvised warming gel when you need to match a tungsten source on camera.

Amber screens and the old terminals

Before colour monitors were common, text terminals came in two flavours: green phosphor and amber. Amber was widely preferred in Europe and was often marketed as easier on the eyes over long sessions, a claim that was more workplace convention than settled science. What is true is that amber sits away from the blue end of the spectrum, so an amber display emits very little of the light that most affects the body clock. That is the same reasoning behind modern warm night modes, and it is why an orange screen at low brightness is a reasonable thing to have open late.

Safety orange, and why it exists

Safety orange was chosen because it contrasts strongly against most natural backgrounds: sky, water, foliage and earth contain very little of it. That is why it is used for life jackets, road cones, high-visibility clothing and aircraft flight recorders, which are painted orange despite being called black boxes. The colour works well in daylight and much less well at dusk, when the eye shifts toward rod vision and long wavelengths darken faster than short ones, an effect that makes red and orange objects lose their apparent brightness first.

Orange as a screen colour

On a display, orange is red at full output with green at roughly half, so a full orange field exercises both channels unevenly and is a reasonable quick check that they are mixing correctly. As a backdrop it reads as warm and high-energy, and it has enough lightness that dark text sits on it comfortably while white text does not. Turn brightness down if it is going to be on screen for a long stretch; large areas of saturated orange are tiring in a way the same area of a muted shade is not.

Contrast ratios follow the WCAG formula. Anything at or above 4.5:1 is readable as body text against that background, and 3:1 is the floor for large headings. Orange reaches that bar on black.

Questions

Does this work on a phone?

Yes. On mobile the page fills the screen when you tap the panel. Some browsers keep a thin status bar visible, which is a browser limit rather than something the page controls.

Will a orange screen fix a stuck pixel?

Sometimes. A stuck pixel is lit in one color and can occasionally be freed by cycling colors rapidly for a few minutes. A dead pixel receives no power at all and cannot be recovered in software.

What is the hex code for this orange screen?

This page uses #FFA500. The same value is shown in RGB, HSL and CMYK further down, so you can match this exact shade somewhere else.

Does a orange screen save battery?

No, and on an OLED or AMOLED screen a light color costs more power than a dark one, because every pixel has to be lit. If battery life is the goal, use the black screen instead.

Can I download this orange as a wallpaper?

Yes. There is a ready-made 1920 by 1080 PNG on this page, and the panel above will generate the same color at your own screen size, at 1440p or 4K, or at phone dimensions. No watermark and no sign-up.

Is it free?

Yes, and there is no sign-up. The page draws a color; that is the whole tool.
