Magenta wallpaper

Magenta wallpaper - solid magenta background, 1920 x 1080, hex #FF00FF

A plain magenta wallpaper at 1920 by 1080, ready to download. It is a flat single-color image with no pattern, gradient or watermark, which is what makes it useful as a desktop or phone background when you want the icons to be the only thing on screen.

If you need a different size, the panel above will generate this exact color at your screen's resolution, at 1440p or 4K, or at common phone dimensions. Both routes give you the same #FF00FF.

What a magenta screen is for

Magenta is red and blue at full strength with no green, another print primary. A full magenta field makes any missing or weak green subpixel obvious as a speck of the wrong color.

The colour that is not in the spectrum

Magenta is the clearest example of a colour that no wavelength of light can produce. It appears when the red and blue cones are stimulated together while green is not, and since red and blue sit at opposite ends of the spectrum, no single wavelength lies between them that would do this. The brain closes the gap between the two ends and invents a colour to fill it. Magenta is entirely real as a perception and has no physical line anywhere in the spectrum, which is the neatest available demonstration that colour is manufactured rather than measured.

Magenta as a printing primary

Magenta is the M in CMYK and is the ink that absorbs green light while passing red and blue. Along with cyan and yellow it can in principle mix to almost any colour, which is why those three plus black are what a colour printer holds. It also explains why magenta looks unfamiliar as a name to most people while being one of the four colours the printing industry is built on: it is a technical primary rather than a colour that occurs often in nature.

Magenta on a display

A magenta screen lights the red and blue subpixels fully and leaves green off. Since green carries most of the perceived brightness, magenta looks less bright than its saturation suggests, and any green leaking through shows up immediately as a wash toward grey or white. That makes it a good field for spotting a green channel that is not switching off properly. It is also a strong choice when you want something unmistakably artificial on screen, because it appears almost nowhere in the natural world.

Contrast ratios follow the WCAG formula. Anything at or above 4.5:1 is readable as body text against that background, and 3:1 is the floor for large headings. Magenta reaches that bar on black.

Questions

Does this work on a phone?

Yes. On mobile the page fills the screen when you tap the panel. Some browsers keep a thin status bar visible, which is a browser limit rather than something the page controls.

Will a magenta screen fix a stuck pixel?

Sometimes. A stuck pixel is lit in one color and can occasionally be freed by cycling colors rapidly for a few minutes. A dead pixel receives no power at all and cannot be recovered in software.

What is the hex code for this magenta screen?

This page uses #FF00FF. The same value is shown in RGB, HSL and CMYK further down, so you can match this exact shade somewhere else.

Does a magenta screen save battery?

Not meaningfully. Only black saves power, and only on OLED and AMOLED panels where an unlit pixel is genuinely off. Any lit color, including a dark one, draws power.

Can I download this magenta as a wallpaper?

Yes. There is a ready-made 1920 by 1080 PNG on this page, and the panel above will generate the same color at your own screen size, at 1440p or 4K, or at phone dimensions. No watermark and no sign-up.

Is it free?

Yes, and there is no sign-up. The page draws a color; that is the whole tool.

Was this magenta screen useful?
