Teal wallpaper

Teal wallpaper - solid teal background, 1920 x 1080, hex #008080

A plain teal wallpaper at 1920 by 1080, ready to download. It is a flat single-color image with no pattern, gradient or watermark, which is what makes it useful as a desktop or phone background when you want the icons to be the only thing on screen.

If you need a different size, the panel above will generate this exact color at your screen's resolution, at 1440p or 4K, or at common phone dimensions. Both routes give you the same #008080.

What a teal screen is for

Teal is a darkened cyan and sits near the middle of the visible spectrum, where the eye is most sensitive to brightness change, so it makes uneven backlighting easy to see.

Why operating theatres are this colour

Surgical scrubs and drapes moved from white to green and teal in the early twentieth century for a reason grounded in how the eye works. Stare at something red and the red-sensitive cones fatigue, so looking away produces a green afterimage; against a white background those afterimages drift distractingly across the surgeon's field of view. A blue-green background is the opposite of red, so the afterimages fall onto a colour that already matches and effectively disappear. It also reduces the harsh glare that white fabric produces under bright surgical lighting.

Teal between blue and green

Teal is a blue-green produced by lighting the green and blue subpixels at moderate, roughly equal levels with red off. It sits in the region of the spectrum where naming becomes genuinely unstable: the boundary people draw between blue and green varies between individuals and between languages, and some languages historically treated them as one category. Teal, turquoise, cyan and jade all occupy this contested zone, which is why they are hard to tell apart from their names and easy to tell apart when placed side by side.

As a screen colour

Teal is dark enough to be comfortable for a long time and saturated enough not to read as grey, which is why it turns up so often as an interface accent. On a display it is a moderate load: with red off and the other two channels partly on, it costs less power on an OLED than a light colour and more than a true black. As a backdrop it takes white text well and dark text poorly, since its perceived brightness sits in the middle of the range where neither extreme has much contrast to work with.

Contrast ratios follow the WCAG formula. Anything at or above 4.5:1 is readable as body text against that background, and 3:1 is the floor for large headings. Teal reaches that bar on white.

Questions

Does this work on a phone?

Yes. On mobile the page fills the screen when you tap the panel. Some browsers keep a thin status bar visible, which is a browser limit rather than something the page controls.

Will a teal screen fix a stuck pixel?

Sometimes. A stuck pixel is lit in one color and can occasionally be freed by cycling colors rapidly for a few minutes. A dead pixel receives no power at all and cannot be recovered in software.

What is the hex code for this teal screen?

This page uses #008080. The same value is shown in RGB, HSL and CMYK further down, so you can match this exact shade somewhere else.

Does a teal screen save battery?

Not meaningfully. Only black saves power, and only on OLED and AMOLED panels where an unlit pixel is genuinely off. Any lit color, including a dark one, draws power.

Can I download this teal as a wallpaper?

Yes. There is a ready-made 1920 by 1080 PNG on this page, and the panel above will generate the same color at your own screen size, at 1440p or 4K, or at phone dimensions. No watermark and no sign-up.

Is it free?

Yes, and there is no sign-up. The page draws a color; that is the whole tool.

Was this teal screen useful?
