Violet wallpaper

Violet wallpaper - solid violet background, 1920 x 1080, hex #8F00FF

A plain violet wallpaper at 1920 by 1080, ready to download. It is a flat single-color image with no pattern, gradient or watermark, which is what makes it useful as a desktop or phone background when you want the icons to be the only thing on screen.

If you need a different size, the panel above will generate this exact color at your screen's resolution, at 1440p or 4K, or at common phone dimensions. Both routes give you the same #8F00FF.

What a violet screen is for

Violet sits at the far end of the visible spectrum where display gamuts start to run out. If it looks flat or shifts toward blue, that is your panel reaching the edge of what it can reproduce rather than a fault.

Violet is real, purple is not

This is the distinction the two names usually blur. Violet is a genuine spectral colour at the short-wavelength end of visible light, around 380 to 450 nanometres, and it appears in a rainbow. Purple is extraspectral, produced only by stimulating the red and blue cones together, and appears nowhere in the spectrum. On a display the difference largely collapses, because a screen cannot emit a true violet wavelength and approximates it by mixing blue with red, which is technically a purple standing in for a violet.

The colour at the edge of vision

Violet sits at the boundary of what the eye can detect, and sensitivity falls away steeply through it: light just beyond is ultraviolet and invisible, though it still carries enough energy to damage tissue. The lens of the eye absorbs much of the near-ultraviolet, and people who have had a lens removed or replaced sometimes report seeing further into that range than others can. Violet also appears dimmer than its energy suggests, precisely because sensitivity is so low there.

As a screen colour

Violet on a display is blue at full output with a moderate amount of red and almost no green, making it one of the darker saturated colours in perceived brightness. It reads as vivid and slightly unstable, which is partly the chromatic aberration that affects all short-wavelength colours: the eye cannot focus blue and red in the same plane, so a saturated violet edge never looks quite as crisp as a red or green one. Large areas are fine; small text in violet is not.

Contrast ratios follow the WCAG formula. Anything at or above 4.5:1 is readable as body text against that background, and 3:1 is the floor for large headings. Violet reaches that bar on white.

Questions

Does this work on a phone?

Yes. On mobile the page fills the screen when you tap the panel. Some browsers keep a thin status bar visible, which is a browser limit rather than something the page controls.

Will a violet screen fix a stuck pixel?

Sometimes. A stuck pixel is lit in one color and can occasionally be freed by cycling colors rapidly for a few minutes. A dead pixel receives no power at all and cannot be recovered in software.

What is the hex code for this violet screen?

This page uses #8F00FF. The same value is shown in RGB, HSL and CMYK further down, so you can match this exact shade somewhere else.

Does a violet screen save battery?

Not meaningfully. Only black saves power, and only on OLED and AMOLED panels where an unlit pixel is genuinely off. Any lit color, including a dark one, draws power.

Can I download this violet as a wallpaper?

Yes. There is a ready-made 1920 by 1080 PNG on this page, and the panel above will generate the same color at your own screen size, at 1440p or 4K, or at phone dimensions. No watermark and no sign-up.

Is it free?

Yes, and there is no sign-up. The page draws a color; that is the whole tool.
