What a copper screen is for
Copper is a warm mid orange-brown, slightly redder than bronze. The two are close enough that showing them full screen in turn is a practical test of whether your panel separates similar warm tones.
One of only two coloured metals
Almost every metal reflects the visible spectrum evenly and therefore looks silver. Copper and gold are the exceptions: both absorb light at the blue end and reflect the longer wavelengths, which is what gives copper its red-orange cast. The effect comes from the specific energy levels of the electrons in each metal, and in gold's case from relativistic effects that shift those levels. This is why a copper wire, a copper roof and a copper coin all share a colour that no amount of polishing turns silver.
Why copper turns green
Exposed copper does not stay this colour. It reacts with air and moisture to form a surface layer of carbonates and sulphates, which is the pale blue-green called verdigris, and the Statue of Liberty is the best known example of the transition. The layer is a genuine oxide patina rather than dirt, and it protects the metal underneath rather than eating into it, which is why copper roofs last for centuries. So the copper here is the new colour; the aged one is closer to the turquoise or jade pages.
Copper as a flat field
On a display, copper is a warm mid-tone with red high, green around a third and blue very low. It is a demanding mixture in the sense that all three channels are involved at different levels, so a panel with a colour cast renders it visibly wrong, drifting toward pink or brown. As a background it is warm without being bright, and takes light text comfortably. The metallic quality, as with gold, silver and bronze, is not something a single flat value can carry.
