A plain tan wallpaper at 1920 by 1080, ready to download. It is a flat single-color image with no pattern, gradient or watermark, which is what makes it useful as a desktop or phone background when you want the icons to be the only thing on screen.

If you need a different size, the panel above will generate this exact color at your screen's resolution, at 1440p or 4K, or at common phone dimensions. Both routes give you the same #D2B48C.

What a tan screen is for

Tan is a light warm brown, close to natural paper and untreated wood. It works well as a neutral backdrop when you want something softer than grey but less distracting than a saturated color.

A colour named after a process

Tan is named for tannin, the plant compound used to turn hide into leather, and it described the resulting colour of the leather before it described anything else. The sense of a suntan came afterwards and from the same root. It is a light yellow-brown, darker and more saturated than beige and lighter than brown, produced on screen by red highest, green somewhat lower and blue lowest.

Where it sits in the warm neutrals

The site carries several colours in this narrow band, and being straightforward about it is more useful than inventing differences: beige is paler and yellower, sand sits between the two, khaki is greener and more muted, and brown is the dark end of the same family. Tan is the mid-point, light enough for dark text to sit on comfortably and dark enough to read as a colour rather than an off-white. Viewing them side by side separates them; reading their names does not.

As a background

Tan is an easy colour to leave on screen. Its saturation is low, so it does not produce the fatigue that a large area of a vivid colour causes, and its brightness sits in a range that neither glares in a dark room nor disappears in a bright one. For a wallpaper it does the job people usually want from a plain background: it stays out of the way and keeps icon labels legible, which a photograph does not.

Contrast ratios follow the WCAG formula. Anything at or above 4.5:1 is readable as body text against that background, and 3:1 is the floor for large headings. Tan reaches that bar on black.

Questions

Does this work on a phone?

Yes. On mobile the page fills the screen when you tap the panel. Some browsers keep a thin status bar visible, which is a browser limit rather than something the page controls.

Will a tan screen fix a stuck pixel?

Sometimes. A stuck pixel is lit in one color and can occasionally be freed by cycling colors rapidly for a few minutes. A dead pixel receives no power at all and cannot be recovered in software.

What is the hex code for this tan screen?

This page uses #D2B48C. The same value is shown in RGB, HSL and CMYK further down, so you can match this exact shade somewhere else.

Does a tan screen save battery?

No, and on an OLED or AMOLED screen a light color costs more power than a dark one, because every pixel has to be lit. If battery life is the goal, use the black screen instead.

Can I download this tan as a wallpaper?

Yes. There is a ready-made 1920 by 1080 PNG on this page, and the panel above will generate the same color at your own screen size, at 1440p or 4K, or at phone dimensions. No watermark and no sign-up.

Is it free?

Yes, and there is no sign-up. The page draws a color; that is the whole tool.
